Are Polish drivers ready for a long weekend on the road?

2022-04-28

Although foreign destinations are the most popular, according to the survey, with as many as 64 percent of respondents expected to choose them this year, many of us are also planning trips in Poland. According to the survey, 36 percent of respondents said they would spend their free time in the country.

Many Poles may choose to travel by car, considering it a more reliable and flexible means of transportation. Traveling by one's own car not only gives one the freedom to choose the route, destination, stopping places, or departure time, but comes with challenges that must be taken into account when planning a May trip. These include the high cost of fuel, the need to plan the route yourself, and the responsibility for the safety of yourself and other passengers.

Drive safely

Increased traffic means a higher risk of a dangerous incident on the road. As police data indicate, only on 1 May last year there were 54 accidents. Among the most frequent causes of collisions caused by drivers last year was failure to yield right of way (27 percent of accidents), failure to adjust speed to traffic conditions (25.5 percent) and failure to yield right of way to pedestrians on zebra crossings (7.8 percent).

This year, we are deterred from reckless driving not only by fear for our own or our passengers' safety, but by the awareness of increasingly higher fines. In 2022, a driver may pay up to several thousand zlotys in fines for offenses on the road. The fine for speeding today is up to PLN 2,500. Cases that go to court may come with fines of up to PLN 30,000.

Full comfort on the way to your destination

Responsibility behind the wheel, in addition to knowledge of traffic regulations, also means monitoring current developments on the roads, particularly in terms of urban and national infrastructure. In 2022 alone, the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) has plans to repair or extend 323 km of national roads. Lovers of four wheels must also watch out for speed cameras. And there will be more of them - this year we can expect an announcement of a tender for 147 new radars throughout Poland and the replacement of 100 already defective devices. For this reason, among others, it is so important to have a reliable assistant in the form of a modern navigation system, which will smoothly and comfortably guide us to our destination.

"Modern navigation, which is based on detailed, continuously updated maps with a database of radars and obstructions on the road and traffic data collected in real time, is a support on the way to the destination, as well as a way to increase driving safety. With the information available in AutoMapa about the allowed speed on a given route and the measurement of own speed, it is easier for the driver to comply with the requirements. Also useful is the Lane Assistant (APR) function, which informs in advance which lane of the road to choose in order to most safely execute the planned maneuver."

Using navigation is not only a way to be safer, but also a smart and simple way to save money. With a good, proven navigation, we will save both time and money. Being able to choose the parameters of the application settings ourselves, we can decide what the "optimal" route means for us. - is to be shorter, faster, or perhaps "cross-country."

"In the face of high fuel costs, drivers should choose optimal routes that allow them to avoid the most congested areas without increasing the number of kilometers driven. The AutoMapa application also has a planner of stops on the route and an intelligent system for planning the order of visited places, which is of great importance in wise planning and route and time," - Magdalena Buchalska adds.
