2022-04-14

According to AutoMapa Enterprise, one courier has up to 150 deliveries to make in a day. This raises a number of challenges - both in terms of optimizing time and labor costs, as well as the sustainability of the logistics industry. The answer to these needs is analytical tools, which can help optimize the last-mile supply chain from 8 percent in urban areas to as much as 15 percent outside the city.

E-commerce a catalyst for change

The last two pandemic years have shown how quickly we, as consumers, are able to adapt to the prevailing economic conditions. The restrictions, limited mobility and the shift to remote working have accelerated the growth of the e-commerce channel and increased demand for courier services. As a result of these changes, e-commerce has become a permanent part of the profile of today's consumer. According to the "Mr&Mrs e-Commerce" report carried out by e-Commerce Chamber, already 90 percent of Internet users shop online. The value of the B2C market for the e-commerce sector is estimated at more than 100 billion zlotys, while B2B is estimated at 647 billion zlotys.

The rise in popularity of e-commerce is accompanied by increased demand for food delivery or diet catering. According to Super Menu estimates, there are now approx. 850 companies in this sector, making almost 50 million deliveries annually. At the same time, the expectations of consumers, who want to deliver their products quickly, efficiently and without the need to leave home, are growing, which, in the face of heavy vehicle traffic in cities, poses challenges for the aforementioned industries to optimize their operations.

Optimizing last mile logistics

Today's consumers expect efficient solutions from service providers. Speed of order processing and efficient delivery - in the case of e-commerce, even the same day - are the most important factors that e-buyers consider. In the case of the e-commerce industry, efficient return logistics are also necessary. According to CBRE's data, as many as 74 percent of e-buyers indicate that they send back 1 out of every 10 products ordered, which affects the number of logistics operations carried out by courier companies.

Both the logistics industry, including primarily courier services, and companies whose structure is based on field workers(diet catering, pharmaceutical and furniture industries, among others), have at their disposal a range of analytical tools to optimize the delivery process to multiple customers on a single day. It is thanks to the ability to view real-time analysis and road data provided by tools such as AutoMapa Enterprise that business customers can implement daily plans that reach up to 150 courier deliveries and up to 80 catering runs made by a single employee.

AutoMapa Enterprise has an extensive network of analytical and logistics tools designed to simplify the logistics processes of business owners, logisticians or dispatchers. The AutoMapa Enterprise #lastmile system, which operates in real-time mode, provides time savings for business customers at the level of planning and the execution of orders itself.Depending on the area of courier operations, optimization of the last mile supply chain can reach from 8% in urban areas to as much as 15% outside the city.

With the ability to schedule work for all employees simultaneously and calculate an optimized route, we effectively reduce logistics costs. The dispatcher is informed about errors in order addresses, which eliminates mistakes in the logistics process already at the level of its planning. What's more - optimizing routes helps shorten their length, which reduces emissions and thus contributes to environmental protection.

- Patryk Osęka, AutoMapa's chief operating officer, comments.

The growing number of e-buyers year after year shows that there is no turning back from e-commerce. Demand for logistics services is driving companies to use analytics services that effectively streamline last-mile logistics processes, thereby optimizing time and labor costs.
